My family and I have been in Portugal for five years now, and appreciate every day in a country we now call home.
I'm an artist, mural artist, live wedding artist and art instructor. My medium of choice is Acrylic. As an artist I get to choose my subject matter and create what inspires me. Commissions are welcome. As a mural artist I get to create someone else's inspiration and realise their vision, as a live wedding artist I get to capture the first step in a new adventure and as an art instructor, I assist others to realise and explore their own vision.
I've always been creative, but it was more in the sense of creating within our home or in my classroom. I obtained my degree in education and was a foundation phase educator in South Africa.
Back in high school my art teacher told me I couldn't paint, and put me onto silkscreening for my finals. That dampened my enthusiasm for painting, so never carried on with it. This was also one of the reasons I became an educator. I wanted to help children reach their full potential and not be told they couldn't do something, just because it wasn't how I would do it.
When we moved to Portugal, my husband encouraged me to take up painting. My painting murals came about because a friend asked me to paint their "vacation view" on a wall at their home. From there one mural turned into two, then three and now 3,5 years later this is what keeps me busy. My path as a live wedding artist was also by chance. Through all these, I've learnt to open myself creatively and not to put boundaries on myself.
